Irene's Gift

If every cloud has a silver lining I think Tropical Storms Irene and Lee reminded us how vulnerable we really are, while giving us the opportunity to come together as neighbors and community to help each other through the challenges. Trying to impose our will on nature reveals our weakness, coming together in community reveals our strength. A lesson to remember in the coming years.

Along with the return to school in September is the return of classes and activities in the area. Fall is always full of events but we have three big ones in the area this year.

On October 2 the second Holistic Wellness Fair will be held at the Coventry Farmers' Market; late October brings Megalithomania to Glastonbury, CT from Glastonbury, England; and in early November Natural Nutmeg magazine is hosting a Wellness Conference in Hartford with several national speakers. More on each below.

Spirit Matters will be hosting two of our most respected channelers, PAT CAFFREY and CREATIOUS, over the course of the fall. In addition channel RICHARD GOULD will be at Breathe...more in October. This plus many other programs as we ramp up to 2012. Take a class. Go to a workshop on something you know little about. Experience a teacher you've only heard about. There is so much to enjoy and learn from.

Wellness Fair At The Coventry Farmers' Market

On Sunday, October 2, as part of the Coventry Farmers' Market, the Alliance For Holistic Living will host their second Wellness Fair with about 25 tents and demonstrations of sound healing, energy work and massage available. This will be the only holistic fair of any type taking place in our region of the state for the remainder of this year. If you've never been to the Coventry Farmers' Market this is your opportunity. Coventry is the largest Farmers' Market in the state and one of the best in New England.

The Market and Fair are open from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Practitioners will represent naturopathy, chiropractic, nutrition, meditation, shamanism, vibrational healing, yoga, massage, Reiki and psychotherapy. And, of course, you'll want to visit the vendors and farmers at the main market for fresh local food.

Megalithomania USA

Coming to Glastonbury, CT from Glastonbury, England is a week of unique events on the subject of megalithic monuments. Who built them and what is their purpose? It seems that New England has the largest number of such monuments in the U.S. The sponsoring organization holds annual conferences in England and this will be their first here. From Friday, October 21 through Wednesday, October 26 a series of workshops, films, a conference and tours to megalithic sites will take place.

The center piece will be a two day conference on Saturday & Sunday, October 22 & 23 featuring major speakers such as FREDDY SILVA and JOHN MAJOR JENKINS among many others. Silva will also do a separate workshop on Friday afternoon. You can attend for either day or the full weekend with a variety of combination pricing.

From Monday, October 24 through Wednesday, October 26 a bus tour will be offered each day to one of three megalithic sites in the area: The American Stonehenge in New Hampshire, Gungywunk in Groton, CT and a third site in New York State. Buses leave from Glastonbury and each tour is $80. This is a unique opportunity to explore sites with experts.

Natural Nutmeg Magazine's wellness conference, "Empowering Me ... Naturally," to be held on November 11 & 12 at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford, will feature two well known authors, Dr. JOAN BORYSENKO and SUZANE NORTHROP, as speakers. Its not often speakers of that caliber visit our area.

The conference focuses on educating you about all things natural, green and spiritual. It opens on Friday, November 11 (11/11/11) with the keynote speaker, Dr. Joan Borysenko, a distinguished pioneer in Integrative medicine and world renowned expert in the mind/body connection. She will invite you to take your power back with her perspectives on a fresh approach to burnout.

On Saturday, November 12, there will be a full day of workshops, exhibits and demos on: Farm-to-table cooking, Laughter Yoga, Boot Camp Fitness, Hooping, Natural Therapies, Meditation, Detoxification, Energy Medicine, Clean Eating, Green Living and Spirituality. The day ends with the closing speaker, Suzane Northrop, a nationally recognized trance medium and expert in psychic phenomena, who is a favorite guest on radio shows all over the country.

Fall Issue of The Door Opener & Retailer Update

The Fall issue of The Door Opener is on the stands...and is now fully online as well. The theme for this issue is Journeying With Guides with 10 articles covering many aspects of the subject. Regional events for Fall are posted in our Calendar.

The Fall issue also includes the annual update of retailers around the state. Alas, too few are located in our region of the state any longer. As you do your holiday shopping please support these businesses as the holiday season can be the 'make it or break it' time for small stores and crafts people. As the 'big box' stores have moved into Manchester, Glastonbury and Enfield, and people do more Internet shopping, it has taken its toll on our small specialty stores and local businesses that give flavor to our community.
