A New Beginning
A new President heralds the beginning of a new era for us. Even though BARACK OBAMA faces a myriad of problems we see the possibility that this time it will be different and the world we know in our hearts is possible will emerge. Hope springs eternal ... and that's a good thing.
But we have to be careful not to project too much on one man. Even though the President has a great deal of power he is still just one man.
My point is that the future is ours to mold, not something to be handed over to another no matter how much we may admire that person. The spiritual path is about taking responsibility, which includes risks and making choices. This is how we change the world. This month's blog entry expands on this theme.
One purpose of this website is to introduce you to people who can guide you along your individual journey. The Activities Section is full of opportunities for exploration. And this month's Well-Being Expo in Enfield is an excellent opportunity to meet teachers and find resources.

Winter Issue of The Door Opener
The Winter issue of The Door Opener should be on the stands and on its way to subscribers this week. The theme for this issue is 2012 - what does it mean and what do people think will happen - if anything? This issue also includes the magazine's annual Holistic Health Practitioner Directory. It will be a good hard copy reference for the year.
We'll add the events for the next quarter to Conscious CT shortly and will update our online East of the River practitioner directory in time for the December newsletter.

Featured Artist: Karen Miller
Our featured artist this month is KAREN MILLER. She has been in the business of 'inspirational doll-making' for the past five years. She combined a life-long love of spiritual exploration with an equally strong passion to make things with her hands to create Original Presents, LLC, offering hundreds of people the chance to express their dreams in a truly memorable and inspiring way - in the form of a doll. Karen enjoys sharing the 'inspirational doll-making' process in workshops and parties, as well as with kids at the CT Children's Medical Center.
Karen recently demonstrated her doll-making process on Channel 3's "Better Connecticut" TV show. Catch a glimpse of the process on video with KARA SUNDLUN at WFSB Video. And you can make your own doll at the upcoming Well-Being Expo.
Also check the Artists' Corner for the exhibitions and showings of our other artists.

Incorporating New Media
As web tools become easier to use and more and more of us get our information from the Internet our practitioners website's and ways of communicating with us are evolving too. Innovations include the incorporation of video, Internet radio shows and podcasts. Here are some examples to investigate.
Life coach BOB CRAWFORD of Vernon is probably our leading innovator with the new technologies. On his website you'll find his blog, motivational videos from him and other speakers, links to his weekly Internet radio show, downloadable podcasts from earlier shows and a photo gallery. Visit his website www.bobcrawfordonline.com to see the future of Internet marketing.
REBECCA ANNE LOCICERO is a psychic medium in Manchester. She too has a weekly Internet radio show, and as part of her show she takes questions from people calling in and does mini-readings for them. The show grew from 15 listeners the first week to several hundred within a month. Listen to past shows and make plans to call in at her website www.rebeccaanne.org.
NORTON BERKOWITZ is a past life therapist in Tolland. He recently added to his website the full video of a typical workshop, including a regression of Manchester networker BOB LEO. View the video at www.norberk.com.
And lastly, the Unity Church of Greater Hartford in South Windsor is a metaphysical Christian church where many in our community find a spiritual home. They now have a video blog where you can watch REV. PHILLIP SMEDSTAD's weekly sermons, including a recent series on the Seven Spiritual Laws of Success. What a great way to check out a church before visiting, or to stay connected when you can't attend. View his sermons at unity volunteers.blogspot.com.

Quixote's Blog: Mixed Messages
During the 30 years I've been playing along the spiritual path I've read books by many teachers, attended workshops, listened to channels and had quite a variety of experiences. Some helped in my understanding of how the Universe might work, some were healing, some helped me grow as an individual and some were just fun and entertaining.
Although I found a similar core message, the teachings themselves could be inconsistent, contradictory and sometimes confusing. The challenge is to sort through the information and find your Truth, not THE Truth.
I was reminded of this in a recent email from DAN MILLMAN, one of the teachers I respect and author of "The Way Of The Peaceful Warrior" and many similar books on how to live a spiritual life. Following is part of his response to a writer confused from trying to follow a variety of well-known teachers.

Support Local Business At Christmas
As you do your holiday shopping please support the businesses in our region. The holiday season can be the 'make it or break it' time for small stores and crafts people. As the 'big box' stores have moved into Manchester, Glastonbury and Enfield, and people do more Internet shopping, it has taken its toll on our small specialty stores and local businesses that give flavor to our community.
Shop owners have years of expertise in their specialty - be it herbs, gems and minerals, or Wicca and they are happy to share it and guide you. The products they carry tend to be unique, not what you will find at the mall, and they make great gifts.
Also consider the area artists that offer a taste of what they do in our Artists' Corner. They each offer a variety of original art and art products that make distinctive gifts.
