Happy Holidays
As I write this on Thursday our first real snow of the season is falling. No question that Winter has arrived in Connecticut. For the next few weeks our thoughts turn to family and friends as we pass through the holiday season. We at Conscious CT would like to express our gratitude to all of you who have touched our lives this year; making them richer and fuller. We wish you the most wonderful of holiday seasons and look forward to sharing the next year with you.
We continue to add content to Conscious CT each month. In the paragraphs that follow we describe the addition of a Spiritual Cinema section, a new photo album and updates to the Holistic Health Practitioner pages.
The Winter issue of The Door Opener is now available and our calendar has been updated through February. It may be cold, but it looks like there will be a lot to do in the New Year.

Upcoming Community Events
December is usually a quiet month for activity as Fall classes and events conclude and people focus on the holidays. However, there are two traditions that take place this month - the holiday party and the Winter Solstice - and there is one of each that is open to everyone; an opportunity to share the season with others of our holistic community.
This Saturday, December 15, Jim Cowles holds the annual Holiday Party at his Center For Progressive Therapies in Manchester. It starts at 6 p.m. and goes until whenever. There will be music, dancing, food, story telling, cheese and wine tasting and carols. You are invited to bring a dish to share.
On Friday, December 21, Breathe ... more in Tolland will hold a Celebration of the Light's Return. A lively evening of community connection, self expression, and revitalization is planned. Facilitators Vicky Hannon and Dennis Cotton will help us reconnect with our own inner rhythm through a combination of DansKinetics and drumming.
Both events are free and open to everyone. You can find more information on each in our calendar listings and if we hear of any changes due to weather we'll post that on the calendar also.

Holistic Health Practitioner Update
Each year, in its Winter issue, The Door Opener publishes a Directory of Connecticut Holistic Health Practitioners. The Winter issue is out now and includes the 2008 Directory, which is online as well. We have posted on Conscious CT the listings of those who practice in our part of the state. There are 50% more listings than in the 2007 Directory for our region, so we seem to be having some success in encouraging practitioners to go online.
On our site you will also find links to those with their own websites and photos of a number of the practitioners. Use it as a resource when looking for a practitioner.
For those of you who are practitioners and would like to be in the directory, you can be added at anytime during the year to both The Door Opener and Conscious CT. For information see The Door Opener Invite.

Spiritual Cinema Section Added To Conscious CT
We enjoy a good movie and have been collecting films in the Spiritual Cinema genre for many years. STEPHEN SIMON, producer or director of "Somewhere In Time," "What Dreams May Come" and "Conversations With God" has been instrumental in developing this field by gathering and distributing such films through his Spiritual Cinema Circle, a subscription based monthly DVD. He also wrote "The Force Is With You," a book on mystical movies.
Spiritual Cinema is the first piece of the Spirituality section of our website. It includes a listing and description of over 90 films, top 20 lists, links to a news column that Jon writes for The Door Opener and other resources. We look forward to adding information to this section on books and more over the Winter. So review the lists and pick up a couple of good films to carry you through this cold and snowy December.

Photo Gallery
An album of photos from November's Well-Being Expo in Enfield has been added to our Photo Gallery. It was Sue Merker's first expo and it went very smoothly. We hope she'll do it again in 2008.
We'll add albums of events as they occur and collections of other area activity during the year.
The gallery can be accessed from the Communication section of the website with new entries posted on the Home page.

Support Our Businesses At Christmas
As you do your holiday shopping please support the holistic businesses in our region. The holiday season can be the 'make it or break it' time for many small stores. As the 'big box' stores have moved into Manchester, Glastonbury and Enfield, and people do more Internet shopping, it has taken its toll on our small specialty stores and local businesses. Several closed just this year and fewer new ones are opening.
Why should you care? Small local shops are the place that you can physically touch into the holistic community. Shop owners have years of expertise in their specialty - be it herbs, gems and minerals, or Wicca and they are happy to share it and guide you. Many offer classes. They also have a good feel for other activity in the community. The products they carry tend to be unique, not what you will find at the mall and they make great gifts.
So please support our local businesses. If they are successful it will encourage others to open in our area adding a richness and flavor to our East of the River community.
