It's Almost Here

For psychological reasons I choose to go with the meteorologists' definition of Winter; it begins on December 1 and ends February 29. That means spring is only a week away and we can start planning gardens, getting outside and longer days. And Daylight Savings Time begins on March 9, which is only two weeks away. Don't you feel better already?

We continue to add content to Conscious CT each month. This month we introduce our Artists' Corner, a section of the website devoted to spiritual art. We also begin offering Savings Coupons at area businesses to newsletter readers.

Spring Events

The Spring issue of The Door Opener is out and we are adding the events that take place in our region to the Conscious CT calendar, class and activities pages. LEANNE PETERS has returned as the Art Director and she and DORY DZINSKI redesigned the cover and enhanced the internal look. And for all you animal lovers the theme of this issue is Miracle Animal Stories. There are some amazing stories. You can pick up a copy at one of The Door Opener Distributors.

This is the time of the new year when a number of classes start up at both centers and the community colleges. Late March and April are also popular times for holding weekend events as there is less concern about being snowed out. So review the calendar and activity listings to take full advantage of the opportunities.

Show Us Your Talents

There are no big community events coming up in the near future. Next up will be the 1st Annual Celebrating Our Holistic Community to be held in East Hartford on Friday, April 11. It will be a combination cabaret and talent show, tribute and roast, and fund raiser for children. Each year someone who has contributed to the community will be honored and this year's honoree will be (blush) JON ROE. This is obviously a shameless promotion, but it should be a fun evening that will bring much of the community together. See website for reservations.

Many of you are talented singers, musicians, comics, poets, jugglers or dancers. Rarely do you get the opportunity to share this talent with your holistic community, so this is a unique opportunity not to be missed. We would love to see your other side, so contact Robin Clare at (860) 833-9670 or Robin@epllc.org for more information or to sign up to show us your stuff.

Artists' Corner

One of the things we love about The Door Opener is the cover art and the opportunity it gives spiritual artists to show off their work. Since we started Conscious CT we've been looking for a way for you to see the wonderful work that area artists do and we think we've come up with something we can do online. Roughly every other month we'll introduce the spiritual art of local artists with an artist's page in our Spirituality section of the website. This page will introduce you to the artist and you can see a sampling of their work. We'll also connect back to their website where you can see more of their work and learn how to purchase items. As new artists are introduced we'll add to the section and over time should build a good collection of artworks by area artists.

Featured Artist: Leanne Peters

It's appropriate that we have our own LEANNE PETERS as the first featured artist. Leanne has helped us in so many ways with the design and development of this website as well as contributing her graphic talents on projects such as the Vernon Healthfest. In addition she guided the redesign of The Door Opener when colored covers were introduced and continues as their Art Director.

Leanne lives in Willington and loves the time she is able to spend on her art. She primarily works with colored pencil on Bristol Board, but her work includes a variety of subjects and styles. With her sister she created a series of greeting cards. Enjoy this introduction to her work.

Quixote's Blog

We're starting to get the hang of bloging but are not very prolific about it. That's probably a good thing for those of you who might be curious about what Quixote has to say. One observation so far: Those of you who read the blog are either very busy, very shy or have little to say. Care to comment? Would love to hear from you.

Blog Post: What Would You Ask God?

Heard about an interesting request for ideas and I thought it might be fun to play with here.

PAMELA PIKE GORDINIER of Lords Hill Studio in Stonington is an artist. You can see a sample of her art on her website. She is working on a new project and her inspiration will be taken from the answers she receives from the public in response to the question, “If there was a God, what one question would you ask?”

Interesting question. What would you ask? I'll pass your answers on to Pamela and share them with our readers. I may also ask some of our resident metaphysicians how they would respond to your questions. Should make a good discussion.

Savings Coupon: Magic Intent

A new feature for our email subscribers is a Savings Coupon to an area business. You can only access the coupon through the email, it won't be posted on our website. This will help us build our email list, so please tell your friends to subscribe to the newsletter, which can be done on our Home Page.

The first Savings Coupon was for Magic Intent, a mystical gift shop that recently opened in the Rockville section of Vernon next to the library and across from the hospital. Stop in, pick up your copy of the new issue of The Door Opener and welcome J.J. LANCEY to the area.
