Summer 2008 Newsletter

The (Not So) Long Hot Summer

After June's abundance of fairs and expos things slow down during the months of July and August as people head for the beach and are away for vacations. However, farmers' markets and the outdoor concert season are in full swing.

Since Summer is quiet this issue of the newsletter will cover both June and July. We'll be back in late August when Fall events have been posted. During the time off we'll be working on the next phase of Conscious CT as we go into our second year. There should be some interesting new things to present to you at that time.

We continue to add a few new goodies and features to the website. This month we added links to all the Neat Stuff we've been emailed.

Upcoming Community Events

No major fairs or expos during the summer months; but it is concert season. One that will be attended by many from the holistic community is Mad Agnes performance in Tolland on Wednesday, July 30 at 6:30 p.m. MARGO HENNEBACH, ADRIENNE JONES and MARK SAUNDERS make up the eclectic group. Margo and Adrienne are practitioners also and all have been involved for many years in a variety of studies. Many were introduced to them at the Celebrating Our Holistic Community event in April. Here's an opportunity to enjoy a full performance under the stars.

REMINDERS: Want to be reminded about an upcoming event? There is a feature in the Calendar that will send you a reminder by email at whatever length of time you choose before the event. Click the event and when the window opens choose 'Set Reminder' and select the interval. That's it.

You'll find details and links on this event and more in our Calendar.

Farmers' Markets Open For The Season

Most Farmers' Markets are now open for the season. They are a great way to find healthy fresh food, support local agriculture and help the environment. As demand for better food has grown so has the number of markets. And many of the markets have become events in themselves with other vendors, music and activities for children. Coventry, in particular, is like going to a fair.

In our Health Section we list information on all the Farmers' Markets in our region. Those for which we have 2008 data are indicated. As others open please let us know and we'll update the listings.

New Photo Gallery

An album of photos from June's Animal Health Expo is now online. This was the first of its kind outdoor pet and animal show featuring many holistic practitioners. It took place at the Connecticut Audubon Society in South Glastonbury. As you would expect it was family oriented with pony rides, animals to pet and dog exhibitions.

The gallery can be accessed from the Communication section of the website with new entries posted on the Home page.

Spiritual Counselor Update

The Summer issue of The Door Opener includes the annual update of spiritual counselors, psychic readers and astrologers. Those who practice in our region have also been updated in our Spiritual Counselor section. While most readers are trustworthy, it is important to be cautious as there are a few bad apples out there. We have met and are comfortable with all those listed on this website. Also see 'Getting The Most From A Psychic Reading' linked from this section for suggestions on evaluating a reader.

Chaos

Quixote's Blog: In Chaos You Can Only Be

"The 500 Year Delta" is a book about the changes we're moving into at this point in history - the splintering of social, political and economic organization; the collapse of producer controlled markets; and the shift from reason to chaos based logic. The book targets businesses, but being an analytical person I enjoy the perspective of futurists who step back, look at history, study trends and attempt to project where we are headed.

Published in 1997, the book provides ideas and strategies for moving into an unpredictable future and the increasing chaos of everyday life as we move into the "Age of Possibility." What caught my eye and got me thinking was the following: "In Chaos you cannot do, you cannot plan, you cannot reason to an end point. In Chaos you can only be."

That sounds like the same concept that Eckhart Tolle is teaching us in "The Power of Now," that we learn from Eastern philosophy or when learning to meditate. Stay in the present moment, let go of the past, don't fear the future, just ‘be'. Let all thoughts go, tune in to your intuition, flow with events and trust that the Universe will support you.
